- brhassociation (Baton Rouge Homeschool Association) - Baton Rouge Homeschool Association (BRHA) is an inclusive and secular group for homeschooling and unschooling families in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the surrounding parishes of Ascension, Livingston, Iberville, West Baton Rouge, Tangipahoa and the Felicianas. Our goal is to serve families who choose to homeschool by networking through online conversation, activities, co-ops and weekly park days. Because we meet for park days, weekly field trips, the occasional Mom's Night Out and other activities, this group is sometimes chatty and always friendly. We believe that spreading knowledge is beneficial to all so we share our homeschool information and field trip opportunities with other homeschool groups in the region.
Members have very diverse backgrounds, political and religious beliefs and family compositions. We all have differing ideas of what homeschooling should be. We welcome EVERYONE. Discrimination is not tolerated. Our goal is to treat each other with respect and kindness and to make everyone feel included. We believe everyone brings something valuable to our group and we encourage you to make your voice heard!
To have your membership approved, you must complete a short questionnaire. This information is an important safeguard for the safety and security of our children. You can ONLY be approved if you complete the questionnaire. We appreciate your understanding!

- LAUnschoolers (LA Unschoolers) - As unschoolers, we recognize that learning is a byproduct of living life. We respect our children, and trust that they will learn everything they need to know through living their lives and following their passions. We are here to facilitate and support them in their interests, whether that means taking a class, finding a mentor, or hanging out and grooving on what is exciting or interesting at the moment!
This group was created to support and connect unschoolers in Louisiana. We are not here to discuss curriculum or other school at home issues. Although secular in nature, we welcome unschoolers from all walks of life.
Beside planning physical get-together, we hope to explore unschooling topics such as natural learning, respectful/mindful parenting, joyful living, freedom and autonomy, living by principles vs rules, convincing family, surviving panic and criticism, living without fear, non-coercive parenting, deschooling ourselves, and letting go of controls.
To paraphrase the ending of John Holt's book, How Children Learn, "Birds fly, fish swim, man thinks and learns. Therefore, we do not need to motivate children into learning by wheedling, bribing or bullying. We do not need to keep picking away at their minds to make sure they are learning. What we need to do, and all we need to do, is bring as much of the world as we can [into their lives], give children as much help and guidance as they ask for, listen respectfully when they feel like talking, and then get out of their way. We can trust them to do the rest!
Please join us and use this list to make area unschooling connections! Share your families' unschooling stories, share and read cool unschooling articles and quotes, plan and attend field trips and get-togethers, and check out our unschooling books/website recommendations. Let's grow and learn together!

- neworleanshomeschool (ANOLE Homeschool Group) - This is a members only group for New Orleans area Homeschoolers and their families. We are an all inclusive, non-denominational group. All are welcome no matter what their race, religion, sexual orientation or special needs. We believe that children (and adults) thrive best when they are socialized with as diverse a group as possible.
No matter how you home teach or homeschool your children -- whether you use a structured curriculum, unstructured curriculum or unschool -- you are welcome here. We welcome open dialogue but ask that debates and differences of opinion be stated in a constructive and non abusive matter. Please remember that children in the group may visit this forum so never use language that would be considered inappropriate for children. Avoid “hot topics” like religion and politics unless it directly links to homeschooling and can be dialogued in a non abrasive manner.
This board runs with a minimum of 2 moderators to keep inappropriate and abusive postings in check.
The group is led by a small committee of ever evolving members. However each family is encouraged to sponsor and organize events, field trips and classes for the children to benefit from. We choose our committee members in a democratic manner so your active participation is necessary in order to have a cohesive group.
To become a member of this group you must attend at least one group activity -- be it a park trip, field trip, or organized class or party. We do this for the protection of the children and group members. Meeting times, home addresses and personal information will be displayed on ths board at times – information posted on this board is not to be shared with non members.

- nwlahomeschoolers (NW LA Homeschoolers) - We are a secular homeschool group for those in Northwest Louisiana. While many homeschoolers are based on religious reasons there are many who are not. At this time there are no groups available for those parents who are homeschooling their children for other reasons or who may be homeschooling for religious reasons but the available groups in the Shreveport/Bossier City area do NOT address that concern or attempt to sway you towards their religious beliefs or practices.. This group is intended to bridge that gap...that lack, if you will for the area. So welcome aboard and feel free to discuss anything homeschool related. There will be NO FLAMING and no discrimination based on race or religion. We are here for the children please remember that. Thank you.

Roadside Geology of Louisiana
Roadside Geology Series by Darwin Spearing
|
| After Hurricane Katrina, the fanlike pile of sand, mud, and silt that formed near a breached levee was unique in the urban environment of New Orleans. Over the 7,500-year history of the modern Mississippi River delta, however, it was just another splay deposit. Author Darwin Spearing explains the geologic forces behind the formation of the delta, shedding light on the human struggle to control the powerful river that breaches its own levees and switches its own deltas.
