Share with other home-schooling parents in Polk County. We'll discuss our ups and downs, victories and difficulties, getting started in home schooling, making it through high school, and helping a student "own" his education.

You are welcome to list items for sale here. The idea of first offering items to others in our county fits well with the idea of community. We want to support what home schooling families are doing, including resources available through familes with home businesses. Members on this board are open to discuss homeschooling issues such as curriculum selection, unschooling, the pros and cons (when mom/dad becomes overwhelmed), offer advice to new homeschoolers and share articles found concerning homeschooling issues. This Yahoo group will offer links to other Yahoo groups that are like minded, and has 1000's of links to projects, lesson plans, informative websites for all subjects, complete with games, activities, free downloads and printable pages for educating our children. I doesn't matter what curriculum you are using or if your unschooling we can all learn from each other. Religious education can be discussed, but religious theology will not be debated.

This Yahoo group will arrange, with the help of all members, educational field trips and fun playdates for the moms and children to interact with one another (so our children will not be left out of the socialization issue that so many use as a defense not to homeschool - LOL).

Homeschooling children (and their moms/dads) from preschools to high school are welcome to join. This group also welcomes grandparents to join as members so they can support their children educating their grandchildren, use the links to subjects & information to help educate the grandchildren, as well as contribute valuable information about education and life's important lessons!

Due to the having to keep all of our children safe, new members will have an email sent and must respond with phone number for interview from a moderator. Thank you!

OHEd offers educational opportunities such as bi-monthly fieldtrips, a monthly book club and other co-ops; as well as social opportunities that include park days, beach nights, theme park visits and holiday parties. We also enjoy cultural events such as theatre productions, concerts,and museum visits. We capture our experiences and accomplishments(both shared and individual) in an annual yearbook, and celebrate with a year-end, yearbook-signing party.

We are all equal participants and hold planning meetings every other month in which all members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

I started this group because I was hoping to connect with other unschooling families in our area. I'd like for my children to have opportunities to meet other unschooled kids their age.

While we do offer an online support group, we will be offering REAL LIFE events so our children will have the opportunity to make friends within the group. We'd love to eventually do bigger events like camping, etc, but for now, we're keeping things simple and meeting at the park, roller skating rink, or wherever.

NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS: All members of this group are required to plan at least one event per year. It could be as basic as meeting at the park or something more complex such as a guided tour and hands on experience at a museum of history.. It's up to the parents--as long as they get *something* on the calendar at least once a year. This is so everyone is involved and one person doesn't end up doing all the planning.
