HSCountry (Homeschool Country Living) - Did you ever want to milk a goat or gather *real* eggs on your own little farm? Ever dream of witnessing the birth of a foal on your homestead? Want to learn about chopping wood and building that perfect fast and hot fire in your new woodstove? Mmmm... the aroma of fresh coffee, wholewheat pancakes and fresh maple syrup... can you smell it yet? Well, come on over to Homeschool Country Living!

Our group is especially for Christian homeschooling families for whom one of the following is true:

    1. You still just daydream about country living...
    2. You recently made your big move to the country and you're still learning...
    3. You've been well-established on country acres for years and living the dream with plenty of expertise to share!

We talk about everything from healthy chores and wholesome bread recipes to birdwatching and gun safety. Anything goes!!

We will also read some books together, including Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living.

We promote a philosophy of relaxed, productive, character-building, homespun country education. This list is not for curriculum discussion, but for sharing our homesteading ideas and how country living affects the way we train our children.

LivingMathForum (Living Math Forum) - Welcome to Living Math Forum! This is an on-topic list dedicated to the discussion of "living math" - mathematics education using living books and materials, as opposed to traditional curricula as the primary learning tool. Discussion applies to mathematics learning from birth to adult self education, with the understanding that arithmetic is only one feature of mathematics as a whole. Math and science history topics will apply as well.

Educators using Patricia Kenschaft, Frank Smith, Charlotte Mason, Thomas Jefferson Ed / relaxed classical, Ruth Beechick, Montessori, Waldorf, "eclectic" and unschooling philosophies and methods may benefit from the exchange of ideas.

Members pass on articles, links and resources that might be of interest to home educators, tutors, and classroom educators interested in resources beyond curriculum.

From the site: "Insisting a child must be taught solely traditional, scope-and-sequence arithmetic to learn mathematics is like saying one must learn classical note reading and scales before one can learn music. You might get there, but you miss out on the inspiration of beautiful music created by the masters along the way. We need not master all the "basics" before being able to experience the appreciation that carries us through the hard work of learning. Think of applying living math principles as developing a 'mathematical ear' while working toward the mastery of basic theory."

MathingOff (Math Unschooled!) - Welcome to MathingOff, the new list about unschooling math, deschooling math, deprogramming math anxiety, and just plain having fun with math!

This list is dedicated to exploring how math can be learned without "school", without canned curricula, without lesson plans, without artifically dividing it up into grade levels and testing and drilling it to death; and how math is naturally all around us and how children (and adults too!) are doing math all the time, whether they realize it or not!

This list is geared towards unschooling, but those who are "unschooling except for math" (but are looking to let go of that last hang-up) or homeschoolers of any sort who are interested in thinking about math education outside the box are welcome!

In addition to being a an open discussion list, this list also serves to distribute regular "math fun" postings two or more times a week. This includes Link of the Week (cool math stuff on the 'net), Resource Recommendation (NOT canned curriculum stuff, just fun books, toys, games, etc. to play with and enjoy), Mathtivity (math tricks, games, puzzles, etc.), Math Lingo (fun with math vocab), Math Around the World (ethnomathematics), and Random Math Trivia (um, did you know that 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321? LOL).

    SO...
