CAHomeschoolersofColor (California Homeschoolers of Color) - ˇBienvenidos!

This is the email list for California Homeschoolers of Color. This list is open to all CA families of color who are currently homeschooling or considering this option. While we certainly understand the need for racial/ethnic diversity, this is not a list for the dominant culture population to learn more about folks of color. We are here to express our experiences as families and homeschoolers because we have traditionally been considered outside of white mainstream America. Who are we? We are African-Americans, Mestizo-Americans, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and first-people Native American.

We are also biracial families and families who have adopted children of color who wish to maintain a connection between the child and his/her ethnic/racial cultures.

This list is certainly open to homeschoolers of color outside of CA. However, one of the purposes of this list is to be able to connect with others who live in relatively close proximity so that we can possibly plan get-togethers.

Please join us as we share our homeschooling experiences and resources!

Please! No sales reps or proselytizing.

    To Subscribe, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CAHomeschoolersofColor/.

CaliforniaHS-leaders - California Homeschool Network invites local support group leaders throughout California to join together in a statewide e-mail list. We will be networking together on legal and legislative issues that might impact all California homeschoolers. Regardless of whether or not we also belong to one of the state groups, let's get to know each other and be ready and united in a very grassroots way!

As a leader in your homeschooling community, you are the one that local homeschoolers look to for answers. One of the purposes of this list will be to provide each leader with a resource -- a place to ask questions, or learn the latest, so that you can take it back to your local group.

If you are a leader, you are busy, and since everyone on this list will be a leader, we will all understand. Unless a legal or legislative crisis develops, you can expect this to be a low volume list. We just want to be ready to reach homeschoolers everywhere, should a need develop.

This will also be an ideal place to help dispel rumors. If you are asked about something and are unsure, just check in here. Likewise, if you hear about a problem locally, let's network and share with others throughout California so that we can all continue to homeschool securely.

This list will be limited to local leaders, and also legal/legislative representatives from the 3 state organizations. We will attempt to invite all group leaders we know of. If you know of others, please invite them. Our intent is to include a representative from every homeschool group in the state who would like to participate.

GentleChristianHomeLearners (Gentle Christian Homelearners) - Gentle Christian Homelearners is a meetup group based in the Inland Empire and surrounding cities of Southern CA.

We support homeschooling (or life-learning) Christian Mothers who strive to be gentle while "training up our children in the way they should go". We practice Grace-Based Discipline and see Attachment parenting as a natural way to parent. Homeschooling comes naturally to many as an extension of Attachment parenting!

Some of our past and present parenting choices include (but certainly you do not need to do these!) co-sleeping, family bed, peaceful birth, homebirth, breastfeeding, extended breastfeeding, babywearing, cloth diapering, non-vaccinating or selective vaccinations, natural health, homeopathic and holistic health care, healthy eating, and natural living practices.

Above all we value listening and respecting our children as individuals with different God-given gifts and individual learning styles. This group has grown out of a need for Christian fellowship with other alternative homeschooling mamas. We support families of *all* home learning styles; Unschooling to classical, curriculum-based to ecclectic and all inbetween.

Our group is mostly made up of young children, but we welcome all ages!

We meet locally in the Inland Empire of Southern CA for play dates, park days, bible study, children’s bible study and field trips.

******PLEASE NOTE***** OUR WEEKLY PARK DAY meets in Chino Hills at Hunter's Hill Park on Thursdays. We meet for Children's Bible study in Claremont. We also have field trips in various Southern CA locations every other week.

Women of all Christian denominations are welcome to join, with the understanding that we are to walk in love not in contention, as we strive to put Christ in our families and children's hearts. This is NOT a forum for doctrinal debate. Proselytizing will not be accepted. No demeaning, spamming, flaming, or profanity will be permitted.

Participants recognize each family finds its own style (Konos, The Well Trained Mind TWTM, Charlotte Mason, Math-U-See, Saxon, Sonlight, Five-in-a-Row, Christian Cottage, Beautiful Feet, unschooling). Families with co-operative views and strong interest in unit studies and co-operative learning by doing will fit in well. Children in attendance range from newborns to teens. We are NOT an Independent Study Program. Our attendees meet the education law via church programs, Christian ISPs, public ISP, charter schools or R-4 filing. Your ideas, invitations, RSVPs, helping hands, flexible attitude, and input are ESSENTIAL! This is NOT a debating loop and new subscribers are moderated as default to keep the community from being over-run by spam and nonsense. As a no-lurking list, no digest or archive is available. Obscenity, flaming, hate speech, bashing, forwards unrelated or disruptive to the community are uncommon and discouraged. Every group might have controversial members. Please bear that in mind. We'd love to meet you! Be sure to send us your introduction so that you can be welcomed to our community. Details about outings are sent to active members only, and you can join, too.

kidsclassicsbookclub (HomeSchooled Kid's Classics Book Club) - This is an email group for parents and children who participate in the monthly Kid's Classics book club, which meets in central Orange County, CA on the first Tuesday of each month. Questions about the upcoming book, meetings, and any pertinent issues are discussed here. This group is for home schooled children who are interested in participating/running a book club based upon classic literature. Classic literature, as defined for this group, will simply mean NOT contemporary (POP) fiction. Anything else is fine!

Each month we rotate which child will choose the next book. The child who chooses the selection will be responsible for coming to the meeting prepared with four or five discussion type questions about the book. All the children will have a chance to respond to each question, and then can pose their own, in a round robin fashion. While there is no age requirement for this club, participants must be mature enough to engage in the discussion. At this time, most children who will be participating are aged 10 and up. The goals of this group are to have this be a child-led book club, with minimal adult involvement, and to foster an environment that begins to cultivate a love of classic literature in our children.

Our mission is to provide an information network for local homeschool families and to coordinate activities and field trips as desired.

Please help keep this list focused on things that will benefit the largest number of participants by following these rules:

    1. Use the email subject line wisely to identify the purpose of your post. We have different age children, varied interests, and busy schedules. Let the subject line help people to see quickly if a topic is of interest to them.
    2. Do not post solicitations on this list including fund-raisers, home business ads, or other sales. Do NOT use the information about list members (addresses, emails) to solicit them unless they have given you there express permission in advance.
    3. If you have a topic that may interest a narrower group of list participants (a project for a certain age group, an activity with a special focus such as a chess group, book club, show and tell), please post your offering to the list and then work out details by personal emails or phone calls.

NCCoastalHS-SD (NoCty Coastal Homeschoolers - San Diego) - This group is for homeschooling families in the *COASTAL* North County area of San Diego, as well as for those interested in what's going in the homeschooling community in this area.

There are many great homeschooling groups (email lists) out there. This particular list was created in order to help homeschoolers IN OUR SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC AREA make connections IN REAL LIFE and to share information about local resources of interest to them.

For general homeschooling information/resources/support for all of San Diego County, visit San Diego Home Education at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SanDiegoHomeducation/.

If you're just beginning to explore the idea of homeschooling, or have a specific area of interest within homeschooling (such as gifted, special needs, teens, religious, unschooling or one of the various "methods" etc.), there are definitely lists out there that will be of more use to you.

This is a private list, meaning that only approved individuals will be able to post and have access to the archives, file sections, etc. Posts should be kept generally ON-topic. If you need to post something that is OFF the topic of homeschooling in our area (such as garage sales, kittens needing homes, etc.), PLEASE be sure to start your subject line with "OT:" - THANKS!

NO SPAMMING IS ALLOWED!!! However, commercial enterprises with programs and services relevant to homeschoolers in our area are welcome to post information regarding their program/service no more than twice per month. We welcome these types of commercial posts so long as they relate specifically to homeschoolers. For example, we'd love to hear about a French tutoring program, fencing coach, or art class in the area but NOT about your tax prep service or restaurant. Please clearly identify yourself in the signature line of your commercial post (no need to pretend you're just a parent making a recommendation), and PLEASE be sure to put "COM:" at the beginning of your subject line.

SDHE_OT (SDHE Off Topic) - For continued discussion on interesting topics not directly related to home schooling. This list is for people who can participate in a good discussion without being overly sensitive or hurtful. Use your own discretion when you choose to participate, and expect to be challenged a bit.

    Guidelines for discussions:

    1. Keep it friendly. We are real people with real feelings discussing issues that are important to us. Please keep that in mind.
    2. Keep to the topic. Your opinions about the subject are welcome, but please refrain from making personal remarks about any individuals.
    3. Keep it short. Please take time to review your message before you hit "send," and don't try to overload one email with all your thoughts on the topic. You can always take another turn.
    4. Try to listen. Agree where you can, and let others know that you value them as people even if you disagree. Try to understand when someone has a hard time expressing themselves, and give them room to say things wrong or take something back that they did not mean.
    5. Know when to quit. Sometimes a topic has just been talked to death and the discussion is degenerating into "yes it is - no it isn't" types of remarks. The point is not to get someone to agree with us, just to say what we see and benefit from the chance to have the conversation.

smwla (Santa Monica West LA Child Led Learners) - Welcome to Santa Monica West Los Angeles Child Led Learners! (smwla)

We are progressive minded, child led learner/unschoolers or alternative homeschoolers interested in moving towards child led learning. We're a secular group in the Los Angeles area. The common thread is respect towards our children and the uniqueness of every family. We hope to support ourselves in growing towards respectful/gentle parenting, joyful living, non-coercive parenting and deschooling ourselves.

We recognize that learning is an outgrowth of living life. We respect our children and trust they will learn what they want and how they want through living their lives and following their passions. We are here to facilitate, strew new ideas and support them in their interests whether that's taking a class, finding a mentor or hanging out grooving on what's exciting at the moment.

We are a cooperative support group, meaning the more people are involved and come, the more the group will thrive and the more you’ll feel like a part of our growing community.

We're not here to discuss different curriculum we think our kids should be doing or how to make them learn things we think they should learn. There are lots of places to do that. We're here to support each other in trusting that our children will continue to explore and experience their world and that learning will be intrinsically motivated.

There is no one place everyone is expected to be along this journey. If this sounds like you or you're interested in moving in this direction, come on in! We're all moving forward w/ respect at our center. Our intention is to form a warm communty that benefits us all. We meet on Friday at a park in Santa Monica each week.
