    Office hours (for phone contact): During the school year, August-May: 10-3:30 Tuesdays. If you call and don't get an answer, the likely reason is that all are teaching classes. If that happens, leave a message and your call will be returned. During the summer (June and July) only on Tuesdays 10-3:30.

    Enrollment area: Statewide

    Statement of Faith: not required, but you will be verbally asked if you are a Christian. One parent must be a Christian in the home.

    HSLDA: Not required, but if you want to, that's up to you.

    General description (or Mission Statement): We provide a legal avenue for families who feel led to direct their children's education, as they feel necessary.

    Requirements: Lionheart homeschool covering operates as a ministry of Southwinds Christian Center in Athens, AL. Those parents wishing to enroll their children in the church school mustmeet the following requirements:
    *Join the church school
    *$80 for new students per year the first year; $70 per year for returning students due at the time of enrollment
    *Keep an attendance record documenting 180 days of instruction per school year
    *Submit a report at the end of each semester detailing number of days attended; subjects taught; and grades given by the parent. Resources used to teach each subject also required.
    *One parent must be a Christian but there is no statement of faith required.

    Fees: For the Cover, $70 for returning students, $80 for new students per year per studdent at the time of enrollment. For the classes, which are open to any homeschooler regardless of whether Lionheart is their church school, the fees are determined by each individual teacher and are to be paid to each individual teacher. In other words, at Lionheart you can do the Cover only; you can do classes only; or you can do the Cover and the classes.

    Services:

    Additional Info: Lionheart classes are open to all homeschoolers whether or not Lionheart is their church school. Lionheart charges minimal fees for classes to cover the cost of teachers, facilities, and operational expenses. Minimum fees are also charged to cover the cost of music stands, music, adn other equipment. Some classes offered include the following:

    Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced Bands
    Chorus I and Chorus II
    English Composition for High School Students
    One art class with the possibility of another
    Weather Science

    All classes this year (2008-09) meet Tuesdays.

    For a complete listing of current classes, please call 256-232-9146 during the stated office hour and ask for Sheila. Lionheart's art students have won awards at the district, state, and national levels. Lionheart band and choir students are eligible, if they meet certain requirements, to compete in/for the following:
    *Solo and ensemble competition
    *All State bands and choirs
    *Awards night
    *Band banquet and/or band camp
    *Medals
    *Music honor societies
    *District and state competition
    *Honor band and chorus
    *Outstanding choral student

    All of the students who are enrolled in bands and choirs will participate in concerts at Christmas adn in the Spring and will all receive awards at Spring Awards Night.
